She will stay within the news and current affairs beat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The BBC will begin a \u201ccompetitive recruitment process\u201d to searching for her replacement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Laura began her career as a political correspondent at the BBC in 2003 before moving to ITV News in 2011. She rejoined the BBC in 2015 as political editor, becoming the first woman in the post.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">During her time in the role she has covered two elections, the 2016 Brexit referendum and the COVID-19 pandemic. As well as her regular reporting, she has also produced two documentaries about Brexit and a podcast about the government\u2019s response to the pandemic, written for the BBC\u2019s website and become a regular presenter of podcast Newscast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div id=\"adm-inline-article-ad-1\" class=\"admz\">\n<div class=\"adma boomerang\" data-device=\"Desktop\" data-width=\"300\">\n<div class=\"pmc-adm-boomerang-pub-div ad-text\">\n<div id=\"gpt-variety-article-mid-article-uid0\" class=\"adw-300 adh-250\" data-is-adhesion-ad=\"\" data-google-query-id=\"CKDUl9-98_QCFbMj0wodzaoOWA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/8352\/Variety\/ros\/mid-article_0__container__\">\n<div class=\"mediavoice-native-ad\" data-mediavoice-render-injection-id=\"add9aec8-7a89-4a9c-8832-f9db22f84e20\">\n<div class=\"plr-in-article-ad plr-clearfix\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cI\u2019ve been so lucky to do the best daily reporting job in the business, with the best colleagues anyone could wish for,\u201d Kuenssberg said in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s been incredible to occupy the chair during a time of such huge change and to try to make sense of it for our viewers, listeners and readers online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cI\u2019ll miss the daily drama, and our wonderful team in Westminster, immensely. Her incisive commentary, tough questioning and astute insight have guided our audiences through the last seven years. She\u2019s a superb interviewer and engaging presenter, and I\u2019m thrilled that we are keeping her on our screens and airwaves. I\u2019m looking forward to her next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">BBC Director of News Fran Unsworth said: \u201cLaura\u2019s a born journalist and she\u2019s done an amazing job as political editor.
