Perhaps by virtue of its large voting body, the\u00a0SAG Awards\u00a0tend to recognize repeat winners in its two TV ensemble categories. Over the past decade in drama, \u201cThe Crown,\u201d \u201cThis Is Us,\u201d \u201cDownton Abbey\u201d and \u201cBoardwalk Empire\u201d all enjoyed back-to-back victories, and in comedy, \u201cModern Family,\u201d \u201cOrange Is the New Black\u201d and \u201cThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel\u201d dominated a good portion of the 2010s.<\/p>\n

But with\u00a0last year\u2019s winners\u00a0\u201cSchitt\u2019s Creek\u201d and \u201cThe Crown\u201d \u2014 and even many of the nominees \u2014 out of the race for one reason or another, SAG Awards voters have a chance to inject some fresh blood into the competition.<\/p>\n

Well, sort of. \u201cSuccession\u201d and \u201cTed Lasso\u201d aren\u2019t exactly new shows, and they\u2019ve already won Emmys in the drama and comedy series categories, respectively. But they haven\u2019t yet received the top SAG ensemble prizes. \u201cSuccession\u201d was not even nominated for its previous two seasons \u2014 a major oversight that Season 3 (completing its run as one of the buzziest shows on television) will likely see rectified.<\/p>\n

In drama, it could be fun to see the dysfunctional media family of \u201cSuccession\u201d face off with the equally mad TV team from \u201cThe Morning Show,\u201d which could also be up for drama ensemble. And honestly, even though a crossover could never happen between the HBO and Apple TV Plus series, wouldn\u2019t you pay good money to see some sort of meeting between Jeremy Strong\u2019s out of control \u201cSuccession\u201d offspring Kendall Roy and Billy Crudup\u2019s equally smarmy-yet-vulnerable \u201cMorning Show\u201d network president Cory Ellison?<\/p>\n

\u201cSuccession\u201d could be in position for a sudden bounty of riches, with Strong and Brian Cox likely to be in the male actor race together (and perhaps Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen and Nicholas Braun too \u2014 hell, what if this category went all \u201cSuccession\u201d?!), while Sarah Snook and J. Smith-Cameron could be in the female actor race.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, other ensembles yet to be recognized with SAG Awards drama noms include FX\u2019s \u201cPose,\u201d which ended its final season this year with standout performances by stars Billy Porter and Mj Rodriguez. The fact that the show has never been nominated is a bit of a shock, and this is the last chance for voters to correct that.<\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s the potential history-making opportunity for the SAG Awards to honor the fall\u2019s biggest show, Netflix\u2019s \u201cSquid Game,\u201d and its cast, including Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo and Jung Ho-yeon. And spoiler alert: For all but one of them, this is their only shot at a \u201cSquid Game\u201d SAG Award win.<\/p>\n

In comedy, \u201cTed Lasso\u201d is good for nominations, and star Jason Sudeikis may wind up being the only TV winner from last year\u2019s SAG Awards to repeat in the same role. Meanwhile, don\u2019t forget \u201cHacks\u201d and the power of Jean Smart. Then there\u2019s the return of \u201cThe Great\u201d and perhaps a big showing for \u201cOnly Murders in the Building.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SAG Awards still don\u2019t honor limited series ensembles, much to our chagrin, but this will be the first chance to see major noms for \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d (Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett), \u201cDopesick\u201d (Michael Keaton), \u201cMaid\u201d (Margaret Qualley) and \u201cScenes From a Marriage\u201d (Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain).<\/p>\n

This has been an incredible year for veteran actors and newcomers alike to bite into some of the best work of their careers. I\u2019m looking forward to seeing how this voting body honors them.<\/p>\n
